The Brothers and Sisters of the Storm Dragon
A Companion Volume to the Imperial Chronicle
By Archmaester Theodric of the Citadel
Prince Randall Baratheon, the First Lord Chancellor
-
Born: 276 AC at Storm’s End
-
Spouse: Lady Melissa Lannister of Casterly Rock (b. 275 AC)
-
Children: Daeron, Daena, Alyssa, Maegon, Orys Baratheon
Randall was the eldest sibling and the steady hand that shaped the empire’s political machinery. Fluent in High Valyrian and schooled in diplomacy, he served as Hand of the King under Richard, later becoming the First Lord Chancellor of Westeros after the empire’s founding.
His marriage to Melissa Lannister tied the Baratheons to the loyalist Lannister branch, estranged from Tywin’s rebellion. Randall’s line became the administrative pillar of the dynasty, remembered for quill and parchment rather than sword and flame.
Princess Marianne “Mary” Baratheon, the Princess of Courtesy
-
Born: 278 AC at Storm’s End
-
Spouse: Prince Vaemond Velaryon of Driftmark (b. 280 AC)
-
Children: Aemond, Valaena, Baelon, Malenia Velaryon
Marianne embodied the wisdom and beauty of House Baratheon. With black hair and blue eyes, she carried the traditional Baratheon look, yet her Valyrian blood gave her the courtesy and fluency of the dragonlords.
Known as the Princess of Courtesy, she mediated disputes, advised her brother the Emperor, and ensured the smallfolk were heard. Her marriage to Vaemond Velaryon bound Driftmark firmly to the empire, with Velaryon fleets serving as the empire’s naval spine.
Her children became heirs to both the sea and the storm, a continuation of the alliance between Baratheon and Velaryon.
Princess Rosalia Baratheon, the Twin Flame
-
Born: 280 AC at Storm’s End (twin of Richard)
-
Spouse: Prince Rhaemond Assarion of Bloodstone (b. 285 AC)
-
Children: Lucaerys, Valerys, Baesella Assarion
Rosalia, born moments after Richard, was his closest companion and mirror in spirit. With her Valyrian beauty—silver-gold hair and violet eyes—and her dragon Rhaenyr, she became one of the greatest warrior-princesses of the age.
As General of the Order of the Golden Sun, she led Imperial armies with her dragon at her side. Her marriage to Rhaemond Assarion brought the Kingdom of the Isles into the empire; together with Rhaemond, dragonlord of Bloodstorm, they forged a dynasty of fire over the Stepstones.
Rosalia’s legacy was martial, a dragon general whose courage equaled that of her twin.
Prince Lucas Baratheon, the Rogue Reborn
-
Born: 281 AC at Storm’s End
-
Spouse: Princess Arianne Martell of Sunspear (b. 274 AC)
-
Children: Lucaegar, Daelora, Nymeria, Aemar Baratheon
Lucas was the youngest sibling, fierce and daring, earning the name “Daemon Targaryen reborn”. His dragon, Laeraxas, was as fiery as its rider. Though not a man of parchment and law, Lucas was a natural battlefield commander and duelist.
Appointed Governor of the Crownlands and styled Defender of Aegon’s Landing, he safeguarded the empire’s most important port city. His marriage to Princess Arianne Martell brought Dorne firmly under imperial rule, tying the sun of Dorne to the storm and dragon of his house.
His children inherited both storm-born ferocity and Dornish fire, becoming symbols of unity between once-divided realms.
Collective Legacy
The siblings of Richard I Baratheon each embodied a pillar of the dynasty:
-
Randall – Law and Administration
-
Marianne – Courtesy and Mediation
-
Rosalia – War and Valor
-
Lucas – Fire and Fearlessness
Together they formed the foundation of the Baratheon Dynasty, not only strengthening Richard’s reign but ensuring that his empire would endure.
