Chapter Eleven – Beyond the Narrow Sea
For generations, Westeros had looked inward, consumed by rebellion, succession, and squabbles of lords. But Richard Baratheon was no petty king. He was a man of fire, storm, and vision.
From the Iron Throne, he gazed eastward. The Free Cities of Essos had mocked Westeros as fractured, calling it “the land of wolves and stags.” Richard would show them unity—and dragons.
Caesarion soared across the Narrow Sea, his wingspan blotting out the moon. At his side flew Rose on Rhaenyr, Luke on Laeraxas, and Daenerys herself on Drogon. Four dragons descended upon Pentos, and the magisters, pale with terror, bent the knee without a blade drawn.
Richard declared:
“Where once the Valyrians ruled, so shall we—but not as tyrants of chains. Ours shall be an empire of strength, of law, and of fire.”
The Empire of Fire was born.
Chapter Twelve – The Fall of Braavos
The proudest of the Free Cities, Braavos stood defiant. The Iron Bank laughed at Richard’s envoys. “Dragons cannot burn debts away,” they sneered.
Richard’s answer was Caesarion.
Above the Titan of Braavos, the Golden Dreadlord unleashed fire so fierce it turned the sea itself to steam. The Titan’s head crumbled into molten stone. As the Braavosi fleet tried to flee, Luke and Rose descended with flame and blood.
By dawn, Braavos lay humbled. The Iron Bank, its vaults melted, opened its doors to the Emperor of Westeros. Richard did not plunder; instead, he claimed their wealth to stabilize his empire, proving himself not just conqueror, but statesman.
“Gold is but another kind of fire,” he told Randall, who used it to bind the Free Cities into loyal provinces.
Chapter Thirteen – The Reforging of Valyria
Beyond Essos, across the Smoking Sea, lay the ruins of Valyria, birthplace of dragons. No man dared sail there—save Richard.
Upon Caesarion’s back, he flew into the choking ash. With Daenerys, Rose, and Luke, he landed among broken spires of black stone and rivers of fire.
There, among bones of dragonlords long dead, Caesarion roared—and from the depths, wild dragons rose. They circled him, bowing in submission. For the first time since the Doom, a mortal had bent all of Valyria’s surviving beasts to his will.
Richard proclaimed:
“Valyria is not dead. It lives in us, and it lives in fire.”
The ruins became a new colony, guarded by the Storm Dragon’s brood. Smiths worked lost forges, mages whispered old spells, and Richard forged bonds between Westeros and Valyria, creating a true empire of fire and storm.
Chapter Fourteen – The Eastern Wars
Richard’s empire spread like wildfire.
-
In Myr, his banners marched, welcomed by a people weary of magisters’ cruelty.
-
In Lys, his navy—strengthened by Reachmen ships and Ironborn reavers—burned the slavers’ galleys.
-
In Volantis, the greatest city of Essos, his armies clashed with the Tiger faction. It was there Richard himself led the charge, wielding his warhammer as Caesarion burned the Black Walls.
The victory was absolute. Volantis bent the knee, and with it, the dream of a free Essos was shattered.
The people called him:
“The Second Aegon.”
“The Fire Emperor.”
“The Lord of Two Worlds.”
But to Richard, he was only fulfilling destiny.
Chapter Fifteen – Emperor of Westeros and Essos
At King’s Landing, the Iron Throne was reforged. Not as a seat of kings, but of emperors. Valyrian steel and Westerosi steel were melted together by Caesarion’s breath, creating a throne unlike any before: black and gold, crowned by dragon’s wings.
Richard was crowned not only King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, but Emperor of Westeros and Essos, Dragonlord of Westeros, Protector of the Realms.
Daenerys was crowned Empress, her children princes and princesses of a realm spanning two continents. Randall, as Lord Chancellor, drafted laws binding kingdoms and free cities alike. Rose and Luke ruled the frontiers as generals, Mary as ambassador queen to noble courts abroad.
And Richard spoke words that would echo for centuries:
“Westeros is no longer seven kingdoms, nor is Essos a land of squabbling cities. From this day, there is but one empire, one law, one fire. The Empire of Westeros and Essos shall stand eternal.”
The smallfolk called the age that followed the Golden Reign.
