Capitals of the Provinces in the Western Realm

1. Province of the Westerland

  • Capital: Lannisport

  • Notes: A wealthy harbor city, the economic and trade hub of the West, overshadowing even Casterly Rock as a political seat under Imperial reorganization.

2. Province of the Reach

  • Capital: Oldtown

  • Notes: Largest city of the Reach, and now a provincial capital. It also houses the Imperial University of Jaehaerys, making it the intellectual center of the realm.

3. Province of Dorne

  • Capital: Sunspear

  • Notes: Since Dorne lacks a major trade city, the capital is the Martell seat itself. The palace-fortress functions both as provincial and dynastic center.

4. Province of the Stormlands

  • Capital: The Weeping Town

  • Notes: Chosen due to its central location and larger size compared to Storm’s End, which remains dynastic. The Weeping Town has grown into the administrative hub of the Stormlands.

5. Province of the Crownlands

  • Capital: Aegon’s Landing

  • Notes: Once King’s Landing, now renamed. It serves as both the capital of the Western Realm and headquarters of the Crownland’s governor.

6. Province of the Riverlands

  • Capital: Maidenpool

  • Notes: A coastal port city rebuilt under Imperial order. With Harrenhal given to Stannis Baratheon as a princely seat, Maidenpool became the provincial capital.

7. Province of Starkland

  • Capital: White Harbor

  • Notes: Largest city in the North, chosen as capital for its trade importance and accessibility. Winterfell remains the dynastic heart of the Starks, but not the administrative capital.

8. Province of the Iron Islands

  • Capital: Lordsport

  • Notes: The primary harbor of the Iron Islands, chosen as the new capital for governance and trade purposes, replacing Pyke’s purely dynastic seat.

9. Province of the Stepstones

  • Capital: Bloodstone

  • Notes: Stronghold of House Assarion, and historically the seat of kingship in the Stepstones. Bloodstone now functions as both dynastic and provincial center.

10. Province of the North (Beyond the Wall lands)

  • Capital: Hardhome

  • Notes: Chosen as the provincial capital after resettlement. It represents the Free Folk integration into the Empire, governed by Mance Rayder under Imperial authority.

11. Province of the Vale

  • Capital: Gulltown

  • Notes: The largest port of the Vale and its most practical administrative hub, eclipsing the Eyrie as a center of provincial rule.

Realm Note

  • These capitals are chosen not merely for dynastic importance but for administrative utility, trade capacity, and geographic accessibility.

  • Dynastic seats like Winterfell, Storm’s End, the Eyrie, and Casterly Rock remain symbolic family strongholds, but are not used for provincial governance under the Imperial system.
